Reading: Genesis 20-22, John 8
We all have the secret to hearing the voice of God. It's weird, actually, because people are always praying to know God's will and figure out what the heck they are supposed to be doing on this earth. Like, do I marry this person or do I move to this town or what kind of job would actually be the right decision or how do I know what ministry to be a part of in church or this or that and everything else. These questions are the frontrunners in prayer groups. WHAT THE HECK IS THE WILL OF GOD FOR MY LIFE? Good Lord, that is INDEED the question!
"If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
"Whoever is of God hears the words of God."
Huh. That's a thought. If we want to do what God legitimately wants us to do, we should read the words that he wrote for us that tell us how to live life. Okay. That makes sense.
It really is that simple. If we seek the words of God, we come to know him. And when we know him, we find that he has mapped out a good journey for us because he is our Creator. And in reading about this journey, his words will come back to us as answers.
Sometimes this journey is difficult; it will test us. That does not make it any less good. Abraham heeded the words of God and followed through with trekking up a mountain to sacrifice his son Isaac. God saw this faithfulness. God saw that Abraham sought to please God above all else, and so he kept Isaac alive. While the journey for Abraham was dark in a moment, God rewarded him with mercy and an inheritance for eternity. Let us rejoice in that same inheritance that is waiting for us. Let us remind ourselves of that inheritance when our journey is dreary, and let us not fall by the wayside because we neglected to read the truth of God. Stick to the Bible. Read the blueprint. Pray for a fervent heart that only delights in the truth of the Creator.
